Many rural residents in Acadia Parish do not and most likely will never have access to DSL or cable internet services.  Dial-up internet service is too slow.  Satellite internet service is too expensive and is weather dependent.  Radio Communications Service realized this and began deploying its wireless high speed internet service in February, 2005.

Getting wireless high speed internet service is relatively easy.  First, Radio Communications Service conducts a site survey at the customer’s location to test connectivity.  If the wireless high speed internet signal is good, then Radio Communications Service mounts a small antenna and SM (short for subscriber module) on the side of the customer’s house.  A standard network cable is then run from the SM to the customer’s computer or router.  The customer now has wireless high speed internet service 24/7.  No phone service, cable service, or additional service is required.
